Halloween Fun!

1 Nov

I’m bummed that I didn’t do anything for the kids costumes this year.  I’ve developed a pretty decent track record with Halloween costumes.  I guess it just got too crazy around here.  Every thing was borrowed.  Some at the very last minute.  I have no idea really what my oldest was.  My daughter wore her Character Day costume.  She’s Kaya from American Girl.

These cuties belong to my sister.  Fun fact…she’s only 11 months older than me!My favorite costumes maybe ever.  My sis-in-law and her craftiness made these costumes after the movie, Up.  She’s Kevin, my niece is Russell and obviously, Mr. Fredricksen.  My brother entertained all the kids with his helium voice from all the balloons. The kids were happy.  They had a great time going door to door with their cousins.  Twenty all together. We had one missing for this pic.One of my favorite parts of the night…the organizing and bartering of candy.  I love traditions.  Looking forward to everything coming up!

Five Little Pumpkins Custom Book

6 Oct

A few years ago, I made this book for the kids to have for Halloween.  We had done a pumpkin activity and the boys mixed colors to get orange.  Then, they painted these pumpkins and practiced using scissors by cutting out these brown strips of paper.  I laminated it and bound it for the kids, but then I took the electronic copies and emailed to book to friends and family.  I haven’t made a new one this year, but thought you might like to see what you could do to personalize one for your gang.  They still love reading this book and the lamination has kept it in great shape.

This was our family picture at the time…we’re one kid short here.

I was talking with my friend the other day and she was telling me how much she loves Halloween.  Then she started “explaining” to me that it wasn’t for any creepy religious or non-religious thing, and so on.  She was trying to justify to me why she loved Halloween.  I thought it was so funny.  I said, “I hope you love Halloween.  I LOVE Halloween!  It’s one of my favorite holidays.  Don’t be apologetic!”  It still makes me laugh.

I’m always a little bummed when the kids do “Book Character Day” in place of Halloween dress up.  Don’t get me wrong, I love Book Character Day.  I just wish it happened on another day.  I miss the tradition of all the kids dressing up at school in their long awaited Halloween costumes.  Of course the boys are quick to provide proof that “Thor” and “Captain America” were in books  and comics before movies.  My daughter’s class is doing Book Character Day on Halloween.  I just need to see if I can convince her to wear the costume for Halloween too!

So here’s to loving Halloween…and not having to justify it!
